Celtic manager Neil Lennon has played down speculation over the future of captain Scott Brown.

Brown's future has been subject to conjecture in recent weeks with clubs in Italy believed to be keen on securing his services.

Inter Milan and Juventus are two of the sides said to be keeping an eye on the 25-year-old midfielder, who has become a mainstay of the Hoops side as skipper.

But Lennon says any talk over his player's future is simply rumour at this stage - although he hastened to add that the Scottish international could ply his trade in Serie A.

He said: "I think he is a very good player. I think it is just speculation at the minute but it wouldn't surprise me.

"I think he could play there, yes. A lot of people don't, but I do.

"He's been a very consistent performer for me and I probably wouldn't be in this position if it wasn't for the likes of Scott Brown."

Lennon is also keen to keep hold of striker Georgios Samaras, with the 39-year-old revealing he would speak to the Greek player's agent over a new contract next month.

Reports had circulated suggesting youngster James Forrest had been offered new terms, however Lennon refuted such claims.

Asked about the possibility of the 19-year-old penning a deal, Lennon added: "No.

"He signed a contract recently, last year or the year before and he has two or three years left on his contract but if he keeps progressing the way he is doing we will have a look at it."

Eben.

    Shite-tu.

Celtic boss Neil Lennon has not ruled out the possibility of a swoop for out-of-favour Manchester City keeper Shay Given in January.

The Republic of Ireland shot-stopper has not started for the Blues this term after falling behind Joe Hart in City boss Roberto Mancini's pecking order.

Mancini has given the 34-year-old the green light to leave the club in January if he wishes, although he has since insisted he will not be leaving on the cheap.

While Lennon says he is happy with his goalkeeping resources at present, he acknowledges the situation may change in January as on-loan keeper Fraser Foster may be recalled by parent club Newcastle after the injury to their No. 1, Steve Harper.

Lennon told Sky Sports News: "You can ask me that (about the possibility of signing Given) in January.

    Very happy

"I'm very happy with the three goalkeepers we have - they are pushing each other for a first-team place at the minute.

"I think Fraser's done very well since coming in but we'll have to see how that situation develops now Steve Harper's got a bad injury and he (Foster) is on loan from Newcastle and we'll have to look at that in January.

"If he is called back by Newcastle there might not be a lot we can do about it and we might have to look elsewhere then."

Asked if the Hoops could afford Given's wages, he replied: "I don't know, you'll have to speak to (chief executive) Peter (Lawwell) about that.

"But I think we'll be in a position of strength if we're going well in the league, I think we should be okay to add to the squad if we want to."

Gustavo Ruelas hopes to win a dream move to Celtic this week by catching the eye of manager Neil Lennon.

The US youth striker has flown into Glasgow to spend the week on trial at Lennoxtown as the Parkhead club aim to strike a deal with Mexican side Santos Laguna to secure the 19-year-old’s services in January.

Ruelas, born in California to Mexican parents, will require a work permit which means Celtic would have to convince a special panel he is good enough to make the grade in the SPL.

Now the six-foot striker is keeping his fingers crossed he can win a dream move.

He said: “I’m excited about this. The chance to play in another continent with such a big club has never happened before.

“I know the Scottish league is physical, but that won’t bother me.

“I have become used to scoring in green and white because that is the colours of Santos.

“They have the same strip as Celtic. And when I was younger I actually played for a team in California called Celtic Harps.

“Most of my playing career I have played in green and white.â€

Providing Ruelas does win a move to Celtic, it would have him link up with countryman Efrain Juarez and possibly going up against a player who grew up in the same area in America as him in the shape of Rangers midfielder Maurice Edu.

He said: “It would be good to spend time with Efrain and Maurice Edu is also from the same area in California as myself.â€

Elsewhere, Celtic have once again been linked with a move for out-of-favour Manchester City goalkeeper Shay Given in January.

Anscheinend kehrt Forster im Januar zu Newcastle zurück . Harper hat sich wohl schwer verletzt bei denen. Demnach wäre Given sicherlich der ideale Ersatz. :D

CELTIC are still on the trail of Ireland under 21 striker Paddy Madden according to Bohemians boss Pat Fenlon.

The predatory frontman, who had a spell on trial at Parkhead earlier this year, played against the Bhoys in Sunday's friendly in Dublin which finished 4-1 to Celtic.

Fenlon told Dublin paper the Evening Herald that talks with Celtic regarding his star striker were ongoing but that he was keen to keep the player at Dalymount Park.

He said: "We're still talking to Celtic but nothing has been agreed.

"Any deal has to suit the club and suit the player. If it doesn't suit Paddy or Bohemians it won't happen. I don't want to lose Paddy, I want to keep all of our players."

Record Sport revealed two months ago that the Parkhead club were keen on the s100,000-rated frontman who is highly rated in his homeland.

Madden's season burst into life in June when he scored nine goals in five matches to win the Irish League player of the month award.
