Celtic want to sign Republic of Ireland keeper Shay Given from Manchester City. And the Eastlands club are keen to send him over the border rather than to title rivals Arsenal. Boss Neil Lennon will ask City to let him have Given on loan. The experienced Irishman is set to be made City’s second choice behind England new boy Joe Hart today.

Given would be the ideal answer to Arsenal’s vacancy - and has been considered by Wenger along with City rival Hart. But that deal looks too difficult to pull off now. And Celtic are on red alert as Given heads for a showdown with City following today’s game at Tottenham. He has told pals he will be second choice and that is a position he will not accept.

Das wäre mehr als geil! Bellamy und Given on-loan und jeweils mit Kaufoption! Ich bin mir sicher dass die beiden auf Geld verzichten würden, den Celtic ist nunmal ihr Verein!

Wäre natürlich super wenn dieses Doppelpackgeschäft zu Stande käme. Allerdings bin ich da ein wenig pessimistischer von wegen Gehaltsverzicht weil Celtic "ihr Verein" ist.
Absolute Verstärkungen wären natürlich beide vom ersten Tag an!

Celtic are on the verge of adding two new faces to the first team squad and more could follow before the end of the transfer window. Defenders Daniel Majstorovic and Emilio Izaguirre are both edging closer to signing for the Hoops and the club’s bid to bring Manchester City’s Craig Bellamy to the club is still ongoing.

As STV Sport revealed on Friday, Swedish international Majstorovic is in Glasgow to complete a switch from AEK Athens and Honduran Izaguirre arrives on Sunday to continue talks over a move to the SPL. Neil Lennon confirmed that Celtic were busy working towards concluding both deals and said he was still in the race for Bellamy.

"Majstorovic is in over the weekend for a medical so we think we're nearly over the line with him," Lennon said.

"Izaguirre will be in on Sunday but I don't know how far we are down the line with him.

“There is nothing to report on Craig Bellamy, other than that we’re in the mix along with a lot of other clubs.”

Given, Bellamy und die 2 Abwehrspieler noch her und das ganze passt. Hooper und Kayal haben gestern ja auch noch gefehlt. Juarez ganze 5 Minuten gespielt und Murphy nicht eingesetzt. Das wĂĽrde so schlecht nicht aussehen, was unsere Mannschaft angeht.

Hart ist die neue Nr.1 bei City, und Given hat schon gesagt, dass er weg will, wenn er dort nur auf der Bank sitzt. Jetzt haben wir nurnoch jede Menge EPL Konkurrenz, Mancini hat zwar schon gesagt, dass er Given nicht an einen Konkurrenten (Arsenal) verkaufen wird, aber ob das auch fĂĽr Fulham etc. gilt? mal sehen was passiert.

Celtic set to make Swedish swoop

Swedish international Daniel Majstorovic is to undergo a medical at Celtic ahead of sealing a move to the club from AEK Athens. If the deal goes through, the 33-year-old will become Celtic's eighth summer signing. Celtic are looking to strengthen their central defence following the departure of former captain Stephen McManus to Middlesbrough.

"We've liked him for a while and obviously with Johan having his connections with Sweden, we have been able to entice him to Glasgow," said Celtic manager Neil Lennon.

CELTIC boss Neil Lennon is plotting a sensational loan swoop for Manchester City keeper Shay Given.

MailSport can reveal the Hoops have placed the Republic of Ireland star at the top of their wishlist of goalies.

And Given could be one of four players checking in at Parkhead as Lennon continues his rebuilding.

Scotland star James McFadden last night admitted he would like to join the Hoops from Birmingham.

And Celtic are closing in on the signings of Swedish stopper Daniel Majstorovic and Honduran left-back Emilio Izaguirre.

But what will really excite the fans is the move for Given. City boss Roberto Mancini dropped the 34-year-old for yesterday's 0-0 draw with Spurs.

Joe Hart started instead and Given now faces the prospect of more time on the bench after the Englishman's outstanding display.

It's understood he will hold showdown talks with Mancini tomorrow morning.

And Given looks set to ask for a loan - with Parkhead his preferred destination.

Arsenal also want to sign him but it's unlikely City will allow the player to go to a title rival.

If Given moves to Parkhead on loan it will seal a return to the club he joined as kid. Celts let him slip the net in 1994 when they made a mess of his contract renewal and he went to Blackburn.

Lennon has also been linked with a move for Given's frozen-out City team-mate Craig Bellamy.

But after yesterday's 1-0 win at Inverness in the SPL opener, the Hoops boss admitted there was no further progress on that move.

However, Lennon did confirm deals for Majstorovic and Izaguirre were nearing completion.

He said: "Majstorovic is here going through a medical so we're nearly over the line with him - and Izaguirre is in on Sunday."

As for Bellamy, all I can say is we're in the mix with other clubs."

If Celtic fail in their swoop for Bellamy then Scots star McFadden could be another option.

The 27-year-old is entering the last 12 months of his Birmingham contract, with the club yet to take up the option of another year.

And when asked if he would like to play for Celtic one day, Faddy said: "Aye. I've been away from Scotland for seven years but every six months or so a move to Celtic rears its head.

"I don't really know what's going to happen. But I'll come back one day. I'm proud of my roots.

"I'll definitely play in the SPL again - it's just a matter of when."

One player who looks set to leave Parkhead is Irish defender Darren O'Dea who is expected to join Ipswich on loan tomorrow.

Paddy McCourt was the Hoops hero yesterday as his stunning solo goal settled the game in Inverness.

But the winger could miss Thursday's Euro clash with Utrecht after suffering whiplash during a collision with Shaun Maloney as he celebrated his strike.
