Manager: Hearts win topped off a dream week
AT the end of a dramatic week, Celtic took maximum points against Hearts in the Scottish Premier League to add to their outstanding victory in Russia, and manager, Neil Lennon, was delighted with his side´s contribution.
The 1-0 win against the Edinburgh side this afternoon, (Sunday), saw the Hoops restore their place at the top of the SPL and as they battled through the tiredness which began to creep in, the manger was proud of his players.
"I´m so delighted. The players have put in a massive effort this week and you could see the fatigue was starting kick in a little bit towards the end," he said.
"We had to use the substitute early for Charlie and that wasn’t the way we wanted things to go but I can´t speak highly enough of the players. I thought it was a brilliant effort.
"I´m not saying we were at our best by any means but we created a lot of chances and could have put Hearts away earlier than we did."
Some of his players will enjoy a break now there is an international double header on the horizon, and it´s something the manager is welcoming, considering the efforts they have put in recently.
"Champions League games, with the travelling, are mentally and physically hugely demanding," he added. "We used a lot of energy in the game on Tuesday, in Moscow, and maybe in hindsight I might have changed the team a little bit more but I didn’t want to.
"I wanted to keep the momentum going, and to be fair, the majority of players played well. There was just that bit of tiredness starting to seep in towards the end and I totally understand that."
Meanwhile, Charlie Mulgrew is okay following his first-half collision with Jamie MacDonald, the Hearts keeper.
"He was a bit groggy, and a wee bit fuzzy," the manager explained. "He wanted to carry on but he was progressively starting to feel more nauseous as the game went on. He´s been checked out and he´s fine.
"And I think Jamie MacDonald is going to be fine as well, which is always a concern when you see a really bad collision like that."
